Pascack Reformed Church
Advent
The season of Advent marks the beginning of the church year.
In this season, we are expectantly waiting and preparing for Christ’s second coming while looking back on the foundation of our faith, the incarnation of Christ.
This is demonstrated by the progressive lighting of 4 candles - three purple and one pink - on a wreath, one for each of the four weeks. Finally, a white candle in the center of the wreath is lit on Christmas Eve. This candle represents the light Jesus Christ brought into the world with His birth.
" 'The days are coming,' declares the Lord, 'when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah. ' "
Jeremiah 33:14 (NIV)
